Hip vs ankle exercises for athletes with unstable ankles

This trial compares two types of exercise programs (hip-focused vs ankle-focused) to see which one better improves leg function in athletes with chronic ankle instability. If you are a professional athlete with a history of ankle sprains and your ankle still feels unstable or gives way, this study might help you get stronger and more stable.

Who can take part

  • You are a professional athlete between 18 and 40 years old
  • You have been playing sports for at least 3 years
  • You had at least one ankle sprain more than 12 months ago
  • In the past 6 months, your ankle has given way at least twice, or you have sprained it again at least twice, or you often feel it is unstable
  • You have never had surgery or a broken bone in your leg or foot
  • You have not had any leg injury in the past 3 months that kept you from being active for more than one day
