Understanding Ankle Control in Athletes with Unstable Ankles

This trial studies how your brain and spinal cord control your ankle if you have chronic ankle instability (a long-term wobbly ankle). It is for athletes between 18 and 25 who play team sports and have had repeated ankle sprains.

Who can take part

  • You are an athlete (play a sport like basketball, volleyball, or handball), between 18 and 25 years old.
  • You have had at least 2 moderate ankle sprains diagnosed by a doctor in the past.
  • Your ankle feels unstable, gives way, and you have answered a questionnaire that shows your ankle is not steady.
  • You have had repeated ankle injuries over the past year.
  • You have not had a lower-body injury (like a sprain or fracture) in the last 3 months.
  • You have not had surgery on your legs or ankles, and you do not have balance problems or ankle instability in both ankles.
