Exercise and pain relief in stroke survivors

StrokePainExercise Induced Hypoalgesia

This study looks at whether exercise can reduce pain sensitivity in people who have had a stroke and in healthy individuals. Participants will pedal on a stationary bike to see how their pain perception changes.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have never had a stroke (for the healthy group) OR you had a stroke more than 3 months ago (for the stroke group)
  • You do not have any medical condition that could affect the test, like heart, lung, or metabolic problems
  • You have not had any pain lasting more than a week in the past 3 months
  • You are not taking beta-blockers, antidepressants, or any medication that affects your heart rate
  • You can follow instructions and communicate how you feel during exercise
