Who can take part

  • Be between 8 and 16 years old
  • Be scheduled for an MRI of the lower back or spine as part of normal care
  • Either have idiopathic scoliosis (a spine curve with no known cause) or be a healthy child with no spine curve and able to walk independently
  • Not have any other spine or spinal cord problems, past infections, or certain other conditions
  • Be able to cooperate enough to complete an MRI without trouble
