Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You are admitted to one of the specific hospital wards for this study.
  • You have symptoms that suggest meningitis, encephalitis, stroke, or a brain tumor.
  • You do not have any eye condition that would prevent an ultrasound (like an eye infection, scratched cornea, glaucoma, or recent injury).
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder, an abscess near the spine, or a skin infection at the back that would make a spinal tap unsafe.
