Vagus nerve stimulation and treadmill training for Parkinson's walking

This study tests whether a mild electrical stimulation on the ear (called taVNS) combined with treadmill walking can improve walking ability in people newly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The goal is to see if this combination helps you walk better and more safely.

Who can take part

  • Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the last 6 months by a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders.
  • Able to walk at least 10 meters (about 33 feet) without help from another person or a walker.
  • Age between 50 and 80 years old.
  • No other medical conditions that would make it hard to do the walking training (like a recent stroke, serious arthritis, or cancer treatment).
  • Not taking more than 300 mg of daily Parkinson's medication in levodopa equivalent dose.
  • No ear problems or implants that would prevent using a mild electrical stimulation device on the ear.
