  • You are 50 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) major abdominal surgery.
  • Your health status is classified as ASA II or ASA III by your anesthesiologist.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 35.
  • You do not have serious heart, liver, or brain conditions that would increase risk.
