Comparing histatin-1 levels in smokers and non-smokers with gum disease

Who can take part

  • You are generally healthy with no ongoing illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, or kidney problems.
  • You have not had any gum treatment in the last 6 months or taken any medication in the last 3 months.
  • You have at least 20 natural teeth.
  • You have been diagnosed with moderate gum disease (periodontitis) with pocket depths between 4 and 6 mm that is widespread and not stable.
  • You do not have any dental work like crowns, bridges, or braces that trap plaque, and no teeth with furcation involvement (bone loss between roots).
  • You have not taken antibiotics in the last 3 months.
