Testing an antibiotic for children with bacterial infections

Who can take part

  • Be between 2 and 12 years old and weigh at least 22 pounds (10 kilograms).
  • Be currently taking antibiotics for a confirmed or suspected bacterial infection, or taking antibiotics to prevent infection.
  • Be staying in a hospital or overnight clinic for at least 24 hours after receiving the study medicine.
  • Have a small tube (IV) already placed in a vein for standard care.
  • If female and able to become pregnant, must have a negative pregnancy test before starting.
  • Parent or guardian must understand and sign a consent form, and the child must agree to participate.
