This study tests five new medicines to see if they can lower blood pressure in people with mild to moderate essential hypertension. It may help you if your blood pressure is not well controlled and you are willing to take the study medicine for a period of time.

Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with essential high blood pressure (hypertension).
- If you are not currently on blood pressure medicine, your systolic blood pressure must be between 140 and 179 mmHg.
- If you are currently on blood pressure medicine, your systolic blood pressure must be between 130 and 179 mmHg (and you may be asked to stop your medicine temporarily).
- You do not have very high blood pressure (systolic 180 or higher, or diastolic 110 or higher).
- Your high blood pressure is not caused by another medical condition (secondary hypertension).
- You do not have symptoms of low blood pressure when standing up (orthostatic hypotension).
