Who can take part

  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) because of shock (very low blood pressure that affects your body's organs).
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You or a family member agree to participate and sign a consent form.
  • You do not have severe lung problems like a blood clot or high pressure in your lung arteries.
  • You do not have certain heart conditions (right-sided heart attack or severe valve disease) or neck injuries that block ultrasound assessment.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
