Who can take part
- Your child must be diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a serious lung condition.
- Your child must be between 1 month and 18 years old.
- Your child must need a breathing machine (ventilator) to help them breathe.
- We need to collect samples of saliva and fluid from the lungs (called BAL) within 24 hours of diagnosis.
- A parent or legal guardian must sign a consent form.
- Your child cannot have long-term lung disease, a weak immune system, active cancer, or severe birth defects that make survival unlikely.
