Tirzepatide to reduce atrial fibrillation after ablation
Treatments studied
Part of Heart & circulation, Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.
This trial tests whether the drug tirzepatide (used for weight loss) can help reduce the return of atrial fibrillation after a catheter ablation procedure. It is for people with persistent AFib who are overweight and have another weight-related health condition.

Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You have persistent atrial fibrillation and are scheduled for your first catheter ablation procedure.
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 27 or higher, and you have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes, or heart disease.
- Your atrial fibrillation has not lasted more than 5 years, and your left atrium is not very enlarged.
- You do not have any serious health conditions that would make tirzepatide unsafe, such as a history of medullary thyroid cancer, severe pancreas or stomach problems, or pregnancy.

This trial tests whether tirzepatide, a medication for weight and blood sugar, can reduce the chances of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) coming back after a heart procedure called catheter ablation in people with overweight or obesity. It may help by addressing weight-related factors that contribute to heart rhythm problems.
This trial tests whether a weight loss medication (semaglutide) given before and after a first-time heart ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation can improve outcomes. It is for people who are overweight or obese and have certain related health conditions.
This trial tests a medicine called tirzepatide, given as an injection, to see if it can improve daily function and symptoms in people with a weak heart (heart failure with reduced ejection fraction) who also have obesity. Tirzepatide works on two natural hormones to help with weight and may also improve heart health.
This study tests if tirzepatide can improve heart and metabolic health in overweight or obese adults with congenital heart disease. It may offer a new treatment option for weight loss when lifestyle changes alone haven't worked.
This study tests whether a program of exercise and healthy eating changes can reduce how often atrial fibrillation (AFib) happens and help you lose weight. It may be a good fit if you are overweight, have AFib, and are ready to make lifestyle changes.
This trial tests a catheter ablation procedure for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that lasts more than 7 days but less than a year). It aims to see if the procedure is safe and effective for restoring a normal heart rhythm.
