Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a lung or other serious illness that causes shortness of breath, such as lung cancer, heart failure, COPD, asthma, or pneumonia.
  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) for your breathing problem.
  • You or a family member agree to join the study.
  • You are not on a breathing machine (ventilator) all the time, and you do not have a severe brain or nerve disease like ALS.
