Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Your tumor is about 2 to 4 inches from the anal opening, confirmed by a scope or exam.
  • You have rectal adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer) that has not spread to other organs.
  • Your cancer is stage II or III, with no lymph nodes outside the main drainage area.
  • Your cancer is mismatch repair proficient (pMMR) or microsatellite stable (MSS) — a lab test shows it does not have a certain repair defect.
  • You have not had prior chemotherapy, radiation to the planned area, or surgery for this cancer (except a colostomy if needed).
