This study tests whether using a smartphone app to check your heart rhythm after a stroke can find hidden atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). If you had a recent stroke or TIA and are not already on blood thinners, you may be able to help doctors detect and prevent future strokes.

Who can take part

  • You had a stroke or TIA (including temporary vision loss) within the last 2 weeks.
  • You have a smartphone and can use the study app (ECG247).
  • You live in Norway.
  • Your doctor expects you to live at least 6 more months.
  • You are not already on blood thinners (like warfarin or apixaban) and have no reason you can't take them.
  • You have never been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter.
  • You don't have a pacemaker, ICD, or implanted heart monitor.
  • You do not have severe narrowing (over 70%) of the carotid artery on the side of the stroke.
