- You are at least 60 years old
- You have a broken vertebra in your lower back (between T11 and L4) that needs surgery
- You were able to walk before the fracture, with or without a walking aid
- You do not have permanent nerve damage from the fracture
- You do not have severe obesity (BMI over 35)
- Your fracture happened within the last 4 weeks
