Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for surgery that will use spinal anesthesia (numbing medicine injected into your back).
  • You are in generally good health, or have mild to moderate health issues, as determined by your doctor.
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form.
  • You are not having emergency surgery, are not severely obese (BMI under 40), and do not take a certain blood pressure medication (ACE inhibitors).
  • Your blood pressure is stable before the spinal injection, and your heart pumps well.
