This study compares two ways to get a tissue sample from the lining of your lung to find out why you have fluid in your chest. The first method uses a special ultrasound to guide the biopsy, and the second uses a small camera (a thoracoscope). If ultrasound-guided biopsy doesn't give enough tissue, patients get the camera procedure anyway.

Who can take part
- You are 18 or older
- You have fluid buildup around your lungs (called pleural effusion) that doctors suspect is due to inflammation or infection, not heart failure
- A sample of that fluid has already been tested and no cancer cells were found
- You have not had a biopsy of the lining around your lungs before
- You are not at high risk for bleeding, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- You do not have other serious medical problems that make procedures unsafe
