Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You have been diagnosed with a first blood clot in the deep veins of your leg (above the knee) within the last 48 hours
  • You have started or are about to start standard blood-thinner therapy
  • You have not had a blood clot in the same leg before
  • You are not currently taking colchicine or have a condition that requires it
  • You do not have severe liver or kidney disease, active cancer expected to limit life to less than a year, or a history of certain gut conditions (like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, or chronic diarrhea)
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or using certain medicines that interact with colchicine
