Who can take part

  • You must be generally healthy with no chronic illnesses.
  • You must have at least 20 teeth, with at least 5 teeth in each section of your mouth (quadrant).
  • At least 30% of the areas around your teeth (sites) must show signs of gum disease.
  • In each quadrant, you must have at least 2 teeth with deep gum pockets (5 mm or deeper) and bone loss visible on an X-ray.
  • You cannot smoke or drink heavily.
  • You cannot have taken medications affecting your gums in the last 6 months, and you cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You must not have had any gum disease treatment in the last 12 months.
