Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 90 years old
  • Your physical health status is classified as ASA I, II, or III
  • You are scheduled for a major abdominal surgery that is not an emergency
  • You will be under general anesthesia with a breathing tube placed in your airway
  • Your ARISCAT score is 45 or higher, meaning you have a higher risk of lung problems after surgery
  • Your surgery is expected to last 2 hours or more
