Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of esophageal squamous cell cancer that is locally advanced and cannot be removed with surgery, or you have refused surgery.
  • You must be between 18 and 80 years old and have a good performance status (ECOG 0-2, meaning you are able to carry out daily activities with minimal or no assistance).
  • You must be able to undergo MRI scans with contrast dye.
  • Your blood counts and organ function must be adequate (e.g., white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, liver and kidney function within certain limits).
  • Women who can become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test and use effective contraception during and for a period after treatment.
  • You must not have had chemotherapy or radiation to the chest in the past 2 years, or have active autoimmune disease requiring systemic treatment.
