This study tests whether giving iron through a vein can improve quality of life in older adults who recently had a heart attack or unstable angina and also have low iron levels. If you qualify, you would receive either iron or a placebo (inactive substance) to see if iron helps you feel better and recover faster.

Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older.
  • You were hospitalized for a heart attack or unstable angina (acute coronary syndrome) in the last 15 days.
  • You have low iron levels (iron deficiency) based on blood tests taken during this hospital stay or within 15 days.
  • You do not have severe anemia (hemoglobin less than 10 g/dL).
  • You have not received iron treatment (by vein or mouth) in the past year.
