Who can take part

  • Your child is between newborn and 16 years old.
  • They are having a planned (not emergency) surgery that needs a breathing tube placed through the mouth.
  • The breathing tube will be placed using either a video laryngoscope or a standard laryngoscope.
  • You and your child (if old enough) agree to the study and sign a consent form.
  • Your child does not have any known airway problems that would require a special technique for placing the tube.
