Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are scheduled for planned (not emergency) major surgery on the main artery in your belly (aorta)
- Your surgery is expected to take more than 2 hours
- You have a physical status of III or IV according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (a measure of your overall health)
- You do not have severe heart valve problems, severe heart failure, or permanent atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat)
