Managing Pain After Knee Replacement Surgery

Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have an ASA physical status of I, II, or III (a measure of overall health before surgery)
  • Be scheduled for elective (planned) total knee replacement on one knee only
  • Plan to receive spinal anesthesia and a peripheral nerve block (numbing injection near the knee)
  • Not be taking high doses of opioid pain medications regularly (less than 60 mg morphine equivalent daily, and for less than 3 months)
  • Not have significant nerve damage or pain radiating down your leg
