Who can take part

  • You have a cleft palate (non-syndromic, meaning it occurred without an associated genetic syndrome)
  • Your cleft palate has not been surgically repaired before
  • You are willing to have an MRI scan and attend follow-up visits
  • You do not have other genetic syndromes or major craniofacial (face and skull) abnormalities
  • You do not have serious ongoing medical conditions (like heart disease or kidney problems)
  • You have no medical implants or metal devices that would prevent safe MRI imaging
