Brain Stimulation for Memory and Mood in Older Adults

This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment (tDCS—similar to a gentle electrical current applied to the scalp) can improve thinking and memory problems that sometimes occur alongside recurring depression in people over 60. You'll receive the treatment alongside your regular depression care.

Who can take part

  • You are 60 years old or older
  • You have depression that has happened at least twice in your lifetime, with a current or recent episode (within 3 years)
  • You notice or have tested evidence of executive dysfunction—difficulty with planning, organization, attention, or memory
  • Your depression is mild to moderate (not severe), and you are not having active suicidal thoughts
  • You are either stable on an antidepressant for at least 6 weeks, or not taking antidepressants at all
  • You are fluent in English and able to complete cognitive tests
