Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are scheduled for total hip replacement (hip joint replacement) surgery under spinal anesthesia
  • You are in generally fair to good health (ASA status I–III, meaning your body can handle surgery)
  • You do not have a history of severe allergic reactions to local anesthetic (numbing) medications
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medications that cannot be safely stopped
  • You do not have severe heart, lung, liver, or kidney problems
