Dextrose treatment for air leaks after lung surgery

Who can take part

  • You had lung surgery (part or all of a lung was removed)
  • You have an air leak that started more than 24 hours after surgery and is leaking more than 20 mL per minute
  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are not pregnant
  • You are medically stable (no severe complications, normal heart function, not on a breathing machine)
  • Your chest tube is not draining an unusually large amount of fluid (less than 750 mL in 24 hours)
