Blood patch treatment for leaking air after lung surgery

This study looks at whether an “autologous blood patch” (using your own blood) can help stop an air leak after certain lung operations. It’s designed for adults who still have an air leak on the morning of the third day after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You must be age 18 or older
  • You had an elective lung surgery like wedge resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, or two-lobe surgery for suspected non-small cell lung cancer
  • On the morning of postoperative Day 3, you still have an air leak
  • You must agree to the study by signing consent (including permission to use de-identified data)
  • Your surgery must NOT be a pneumonectomy, sleeve lobectomy, chest wall or diaphragm resection, or a procedure on both sides
