Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have a BMI of 40 or higher, OR a BMI of 35+ with a weight-related health condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea
  • You are scheduled for laparoscopic weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass) at St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin
  • You are not currently taking blood-thinning medication for another condition
  • You have no allergy to heparin or similar blood-thinner drugs
  • You have normal kidney function and no known bleeding disorders
