Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have lived continuously at high altitude (2,500+ meters or 8,200+ feet) for more than 6 months and plan to stay there
  • You have been diagnosed with high-altitude polycythemia (excess red blood cells caused by living at high altitude)
  • You have no severe heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease
  • You have no active cancer, uncontrolled thyroid problems, or poorly controlled diabetes
  • You do not have serious blood vessel problems or recent injuries in your upper arms
