Who can take part
- Be 18–60 years old
- Have lived at high altitude (above 8,200 feet) for at least 6 months and plan to stay there during the study
- Have high blood pressure that has been diagnosed as essential hypertension (not caused by another condition)
- Have blood pressure below 180/110 mmHg at your visit and below 170/100 mmHg on average over 24 hours
- Have no heart attacks, strokes, or hypertensive emergencies in the past 3 months
- Be willing to sign a consent form and commit to the study
