Heart Fat Changes After Weight-Loss Surgery

ObesityDiastolic DysfunctionHeart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFPEF)

This study uses CT scans to see how fat inside heart muscle changes after bariatric (weight-loss) surgery and how that affects how well your heart relaxes. You'll have heart imaging before and after surgery to help doctors understand the connection between weight loss and heart health.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are already scheduled for bariatric (weight-loss) surgery for medical reasons
  • Your heart's main pumping chamber works well (ejection fraction of 50% or higher)
  • You can safely have a cardiac CT scan with contrast dye
  • You do not have a pacemaker, defibrillator, prosthetic heart valve, or certain other heart devices
  • You do not have a history of cardiomyopathy, sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, myocarditis, or significant heart valve disease
