Who can take part
- You must be 18 years old or older.
- You are scheduled for a surgery that is not an emergency, under general anesthesia, and expected to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours after.
- You must be in generally good health (classified as ASA physical status I–III).
- You must NOT have severe liver or kidney problems.
- You must NOT have a known allergy to methadone or other opioids, and you must NOT be using opioids regularly.
- You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You must NOT be planned to receive epidural or regional anesthesia instead of the study drug.
- You must be able to complete the study assessments.
