Who can take part
- You had a heart attack (type 1, either with ST elevation or without) within the last 24 hours or 7–14 days
- Your blocked artery was successfully opened during the angiogram (heart catheterization), with blood flow restored and remaining blockage less than 70%
- Your blocked artery is between 2.5 and 4.0 mm in diameter (measured during the angiogram)
- You are 18–75 years old and able to give written consent
- You do not have severe heart failure, severe kidney or liver disease, or a bleeding disorder that would make blood thinners unsafe
- You are not pregnant, do not have significant blockages in other arteries needing treatment, and have not had prior bypass surgery or stent in this vessel
