Long-Term Outcomes of Childhood Flatfoot Surgery

Flat Foot Acquired Bilateral (Pes Planus)

Who can take part

  • You had bilateral subtalar arthrorisis surgery (surgery on both feet to correct flatfoot) with endorthesis and calcaneal stop implants
  • You were part of a previous flatfoot treatment study led by Prof. Giannini at Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli
  • You are still being followed at Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli (the hospital in Italy where you had surgery)
  • You have not had any additional foot or ankle surgeries since your original flatfoot surgery

Surgery for flexible flatfoot in teens

This study compares two surgical approaches for flexible flatfoot in adolescents whose symptoms haven't improved with non-surgical care. One group gets a procedure called arthroereisis alone, and the other gets arthroereisis combined with a bone-shaping surgery (corrective osteotomy).
