This study helps doctors figure out why some people drink and urinate excessively. Researchers will measure a hormone called copeptin in your blood after giving you fluids, to find out if your excessive drinking and urination is caused by a specific hormone problem (AVP deficiency) or something else.

Who can take part

  • Age 18 or older
  • Urinate more than 40 ml per kilogram of body weight per day (or more than about 2.8 liters per day for a 70 kg person) and drink more than 3 liters of fluid per day
  • Urine is very dilute (less concentrated than normal), or you already have a diagnosis of AVP deficiency
  • Your excessive urination is not caused by diabetes, high blood calcium, or low potassium
  • You do not have kidney disease (eGFR must be at least 60), severe heart failure, severe liver disease, or untreated thyroid or adrenal problems
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or in another clinical trial within the last 30 days
