Testing a new non-invasive oxygen monitoring method in heart surgery

This study tests a new non-invasive way to monitor how well oxygen is being delivered to your body during and after heart surgery. Researchers will compare this new monitoring method with standard devices that are already being used during your surgery.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You are undergoing heart surgery that requires a pulmonary artery catheter (a thin tube placed in a heart vessel to measure how well the heart is pumping)
  • You must have an arterial line with FloTrac device placed as part of your routine surgery care (a specialized monitoring device in an artery)
  • You must have at least 3 blood samples taken at specific times during and after surgery
  • You cannot be planned for or already using mechanical heart support devices like IABP, Impella, or ECMO
  • You must not have opted out of research participation
