Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are having planned (not emergency) heart surgery or surgery on your thoracic aorta (the large artery connected to your heart)
- Your surgery is not considered extremely high-risk based on a risk score (EuroSCORE II)
- Your heart's pumping function is not severely weakened (ejection fraction ≥ 30%)
- You do not have high pressure in the blood vessels of your lungs (pulmonary hypertension)
- Your right heart chamber is functioning normally
