- Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last 10 years
- Have not needed insulin for at least 6 months and never had diabetic ketoacidosis

- Not pregnant and not acutely ill at time of enrollment
- Not taking high-dose steroids or immunosuppressive medications that affect insulin production
