Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You have persistent atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat lasting more than a few seconds) before undergoing a catheter ablation procedure or cardioversion (electrical treatment to restore normal heartbeat)
- You have not had a heart attack, inherited heart disease, or primary valve disease that caused your weak heart function
- You are not pregnant and have not been pregnant in the 12 months before your heart weakness started
- You drink 21 units of alcohol per week or less (roughly 10 drinks or fewer per week)
- You have not received chemotherapy drugs that damage the heart
