  • Age 18–55 years old
  • For healthy group: normal body weight (BMI 18.5–29.9); for other groups: overweight or obese (BMI 27–39.9)
  • Blood sugar control test (HbA1c) below 6.5% (or below 7.2–9.5% if you have type 1 diabetes)
  • No significant heart, kidney, liver, or other chronic health conditions (except diabetes-related conditions for the diabetes group)
  • Willing to stop most prescription and non-prescription medications 2 weeks before the study starts
  • Female participants must be unable to become pregnant, or male
