- You have advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (stage III or IVA) that can be surgically removed
- Your cancer has not been treated before (no prior chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy)
- Your overall health is good enough for treatment (ECOG score 0–1: able to work or mostly care for yourself)
- You have adequate heart, liver, and kidney function with no severe heart disease
- You have not had major surgery in the past 4 weeks
- You do not have cancer spread to the brain or active infections like hepatitis or HIV
