Osteoporosis Medication Effects on Spine Bone Quality

This study tests how a bone-strengthening medication called Abaloparatide affects the quality of bones in your lower spine. Researchers will use imaging scans to see if the medication helps improve bone strength in people with osteoporosis who also have spine wear-and-tear.

Who can take part

  • Diagnosed with osteoporosis (either from a fragility fracture, low bone density score, or high fracture risk)
  • Have wear-and-tear disease in your lower spine (spondylosis, disc disease, stenosis, or scoliosis)
  • Qualify for treatment with an anabolic bone medication based on clinical guidelines
  • Never had surgery on your lower spine
  • Willing to have three imaging scans (DEXA, MRI, and CT) within 3 months of starting the medication
  • No history of bone cancer, Paget disease, kidney disease causing high calcium, or prior radiation therapy
