Who can take part
- You must be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) with acute liver failure from a reversible cause (such as infection, bleeding, alcohol, or poison)
- Your blood work must show high bilirubin (≥12 mg/dL, a sign of liver damage) and elevated INR (≥1.5, meaning your blood doesn't clot normally)
- You must be on a waiting list for a liver transplant, or not eligible for transplant but need supportive care to help your liver recover
- You must be stable enough to survive at least 24 hours without extreme life support (such as very high doses of blood-pressure medications or severe breathing failure)
- You cannot be pregnant or have advanced lung disease, heart disease, metastatic cancer, or severe muscle-wasting conditions
- You cannot have participated in another clinical trial in the past 3 months
