Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You were just admitted to the ICU and expect to stay longer than 7 days
- You need a breathing tube (mechanical ventilation) that will likely stay in for more than 48 hours
- You don't have a pre-existing nerve or muscle disease (like myasthenia gravis or ALS)
- You don't have pre-existing arm or leg weakness or paralysis that would affect testing
- Your wrists, elbows, and ankles are free of wounds, severe swelling, or skin breakdown
