Who can take part

  • You must be in the ICU or emergency room within the last 2 days
  • You need to have a severe infection called sepsis or severe sepsis
  • You cannot have a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator
  • You cannot have a blood clot in your leg in the last 6 months
  • You cannot have open wounds, burns, or skin problems on your legs
  • You cannot be pregnant
